How to get rid of a mattress, because we can’t

At some point or another, everyone has to get rid of a mattress. Maybe you’re moving and can’t take it with you. Maybe it’s old and lumpy and you just want something new. Whatever the reason, getting rid of a mattress isn’t as easy as it sounds. The biggest issue with mattresses is size, but they can also be dangerous to dispose of because the springs can cause damage if the mattress is broken down or bent, and the soft filling can become a hazard.   1. Sell it: There are plenty of people out there who are looking for a good deal on a used mattress. Try posting it on Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace. Just make sure to take some good pictures and write an honest description.
  2. Donate it: If your mattress is in decent condition, you could try donating it to a local goodwill store or try an organisation like Bedcollect. Call ahead to see if they accept mattresses and what their requirements are.
  3. Recycle it: Some organisations like Soft Landing will accept mattresses (usually for a fee). This is a good option if you want to get rid of your mattress but don’t want it ending up in a landfill.
